"You have to stop, Americans who 'want to move to Canada,'" said the caption of the shared post between the show and Reynolds.
The Deadpool actor explained that our neighbours to the south have to resist saying they're going to move here whenever they're mad at something happening in the U.S. That might be of interest to some Americans ahead of Independence Day 2023, given the country's recent Supreme Court ruling that race can no longer be considered a factor for universities when considering admission.
"As a Canadian, I'm sorry, but no, you can't," Reynolds said in the original video. "I know we're friendly but Canada's not your safe house. I mean, we barely let Canadians into Canada anymore."
"So, please, pick somewhere else," he continued, adding that Finland is "really lovely."
In the comment section, many people responded by saying "happy Canada Day" while others shared hilarious takes on the whole situation as well as some good old Canadian pride.
"As a US citizen... yeah, I wouldn't let us in either," said one Instagram commenter.
"As a Finn, we pass the task on to our neighbours in the west, Sweden," said another.
"Iconic," wrote Canadian tennis player Denis Shapovalov.
"Canadians do have the funny gene ingrained in them," said another user. "Ryan is effortlessly funny. Look at the distinguished names that come to mind - Lorne Michaels John Candy, Martin Short, Eugene Levy, Mike Myers, Dan Aykroyd, Catherine O’Hara - list is endless. They really have enriched the U.S. arts scene. Happy Canada Day!"
Happy Canada Day, indeed!
Reynolds is of course a proud Vancouverite and has shared many tidbits about his life before making it big in Hollywood, like the fact that he used to bag Sarah McLachlan's groceries when he worked at Safeway as a teen and that his favourite restaurant in the entire world is Minervas in the Kerrisdale neighbourhood of B.C.
As well, Reynolds' wife, Blake Lively, honoured a part of his past by commissioning a painting that shows Reynolds delivering newspapers, which is a job he had as a kid for the Vancouver Sun.
"The house in the painting is my childhood home," he said. "My brothers and I spent years trying to kill each other on that lawn. There are a lot of Easter eggs in the painting, including my idol, John Candy on the front page of the newspaper."
"The house no longer stands but it’s a living, breathing thing in my head. This piece of art is the greatest present my wife has ever given me."

Ryan Reynolds is a national treasure in Canada and there's just so much interesting information about the iconic actor out there that might be surprising to some given his current A-lister status.
The 46-year-old is as beloved to Canadians as maple syrup and he often shares his love for his home country in interviews and viral moments where he's always dropping something interesting about his childhood or crumbs of info about his home life with Blake Lively and their four kids.
From his favourite movie he's acted in to what he considers to be the best restaurant in the entire world, here's an insight into Ryan Reynolds' personal life and his relatable childhood in Canada.
According to his LinkedIn, Reynolds was a forklift driver at a Safeway supermarket in Vancouver back in the 1990s.
In an interview with CBC, he shared how much he loved working there on overnight shifts and said his coworkers were some of "the funniest people on earth."
"Some of the biggest impressions on me, actually, like as a performer, were the people, the folks I was working with at night," he revealed.
Who knows — maybe some of those Deadpool personality quirks come from that time in his life!
He used to bag Sarah McLachlan's groceries
Big thanks to @SarahMcLachlan for letting us use her name for the @AviationGin spot. True story: when I was 19, I bagged her groceries when I worked at Safeway. She was super nice.
He also shared that he used to serve another famous Canadian icon as a teen.
"I used to bag Sarah McLachlan's groceries and I always noted that she was incredibly kind to everybody that she met in that store," Reynolds said. "Didn't have to be."
"No one even knew it was her, half the time she had a toque pulled down," he said of the "Building A Mystery" singer. "But yeah, it was her. She was awesome."
The movie he's seen the most
In an interview with Leo, Reynolds shared that the movie he's rewatched the most times is Planes Trains and Automobiles.
"Steve Martin is beautiful in the film, and John Candy is a revelation," he said. "Every time I see it I notice something new. There are references to the film littered throughout Deadpool 1 and 2."
Reynolds and fellow celeb Colin Hanks are working on a documentary of Candy's life and the impact the legendary Canadian had.
"Expect tears," warned Reynolds of the project, which has the blessing of Candy's children.
His favourite film he's been in
When it comes to his favourite movie he's ever been in, it's not one of his huge Blockbusters like Red Notice, Deadpool, or The Adam Project.
Instead, he said that Mississippi Grind, a 2015 film about two men going on a gambling road trip, is his top pick.
"I just love the pacing and tone, and I think Ben Mendelsohn is a treasure," he revealed.
Although he may appear cool and charismatic in public, he's been candid about his mental health struggles.
"I've had anxiety my whole life really," he said. "And you know, I feel like I have two parts of my personality, that one takes over when that happens."
He explained that he has a "little guy" who takes over in moments of high stress, like when he's on a talk show.
"I feel, like, my heart rate drop, and my breathing calm, and I just sort of go out and I'm this different person. And I leave that interview going, 'God, I'd love to be that guy!'"
While chatting with young patients at SickKids Hospital, Reynolds revealed he uses "box breathing" to help him out when he's feeling overwhelmed.
"When I do that it kind of makes me calm, like I sort of feel like I'm present," he said. "Like I'm actually here in this exact moment right now — and in this exact moment right now there is nothing that is scary or makes me nervous the way when I think about things in the future."
He always shares his love for Vancouver, but apparently, his younger years weren't always easy.
"I don't want to paint this picture that it was this, like, horrible place to grow up," he said of his family situation. "But it was very tense."
It seems his relationship with his father wasn't always perfect.
"I used to sort of describe him as, like, a skin-covered landmine," he shared. "I attribute some of why I'm good at my job from that. I'm perceptive. I watch carefully for danger. And, you know, as an adult, that can really come in handy."
That being said, he told David Letterman that his father would have loved meeting his grandkids.
"I think he would've really been softened by them in a way that he wasn't with boys."
Before he made it to Hollywood, Reynolds' first job was delivering newspapers for the Vancouver Sun, which his wife Blake Lively had made into a painting for him.
Given that he has three girls with his wife Blake Lively, it's no wonder he loves being a girl dad.
"Oh my god, I would not have it any other way," he said, about having three young women in their house. "When we had our youngest I was quietly terrified it was going to be a boy."
Since he made that statement, Reynolds and Lively welcomed a fourth child, but they haven't revealed as yet whether or not their new little one is a boy or a girl.
That being said, three little girls is a decidedly different vibe than his own childhood.
"I grew up with boys, and it was like, you know, I was constantly being thrown through walls when there was a perfectly good door five feet away," he joked.

Formula 1 announced on Monday that the Canadian star of Deadpool is now part owner of F1’s Alpine racing team. That means we might be seeing a whole lot more of Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, at future F1 races.
“Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds is part of an investor group taking a 24% equity stake in Alpine,” Formula 1 tweeted early on Monday.
The deal is worth €200 million (CA $287 million) according to Formula 1, although it sounds like Reynolds isn’t footing the whole bill. He’s part of a larger group of investors in the deal, though he obviously brings more star power than most anyone else.
The move is obviously a big one for fans of the actor and the sport, given everything that Reynolds has done with his Wrexham football club. He and co-owner Rob McElhenney invested in the team a few years ago, built a docuseries around it called Welcome To Wrexham and saw the club win its first title in over four decades this year.
This whole thing comes after a months-long back-and-forth between Reynolds and the National Hockey League, during which he was part of a bid to buy the Ottawa Senators. Reynolds joined a group that tried to buy the team, though he also had competition from Snoop Dogg, who backed another bid.
In the end, the team was sold to another guy with no celebrities on his side.
Reynolds didn't immediately say anything about the deal on Monday morning. Still, you've got to expect we'll be seeing plenty of racing tweets and Insta posts from RR going forward.
It's just a shame that he didn't close the deal a few weeks ago. Then he could've celebrated in Canada at the Montreal Grand Prix!
Ryan Reynolds shared a comparison between Wales and Canada and the sort of similar relationship the two countries have with their neighbouring nations, which got a little salty.
The pair were asked, "What's the most interesting thing that either of you have learned about Wrexham either as a place or a football club since you've got involved?" for Reynolds, his answer started off on a sweet note.
"For me, it's probably how impossibly kind the town is," the Deadpool actor shared. "I mean, people that have come from other countries — from America, from Canada, from other parts of Europe — it's amazing to me to hear so many stories of locals just offering people a ride to the airport or a ride to their hotel and that kind of thing."
He then shared a little something that Canucks and the Welsh can bond over.
"There's a real kinship there that I feel between Wrexham and Canada, and that stands — we both have much louder, bigger attention-hogging neighbours," he joked.
"You guys have England, you know, we have the United States."
Ouch!
EXCLUSIVE: #wrexhamfc co-owners Rob McElhenney & Ryan Reynolds sat down for a great chat with us!youtu.be
When asked which player on the team loves the camera the most, the co-owners named Ollie Palmer, prompting Reynolds to share a story about him.
"Every time we've come as a family and stuff we'll walk down to the locker room and Ollie's the first guy that walks out of that dressing room completely shirtless to have a conversation with my wife," the Deadpool actor shared.
"I'm always like, "Ollie, put a f*cking shirt on and come back out like a gentleman,'" he said.
That being said, McElhenney noted that Palmer is beloved, with Reynolds calling him "one of the best guys we know."
Elsewhere in the podcast, Reynolds shared what it was like when Wrexham won the big match that secured their ascension to the National League back in April.
